Scruitineering and NMSC Rules 2009/Engines/10. Cylinder head

“Valve sizes are to be 1" exhaust and 13/32" inlet.”

Post-race scrutineering at the National Championship meeting (19th September 2009) revealed a problem with rule “Engines/10”. The first four cars from the National Championship race were found to have exhaust valves with a variance of three thousandths of an inch to the 1” specified in the rule – the first three were +3thou and the fourth was –3thou. All four cars had different engine builders.

Discussion took place between the five NMSC Committee members present on the night and the majority agreed that, as discussed on previous occasions, there would always be some variance in mass-produced engine parts and that +/-3thou was an acceptable margin.

Independent confirmation of the expected variance on Mini engine valves has been obtained from a UK-based specialist valve producer (a supplier to Cosworth and Lotus) stating that “Modern day mass production tolerances on the head diameter of the valve is  +/- 0.008" (0.2mm)”.

The 2009 Technical Specification for BriSCA F2 / 206. / Engines / 7 also states “Valves must be of a standard type with head diameters IN 42 mm +- 0.2mm EX 36 mm +- 0.2mm, and no lightening is permitted”.

The NMSC Committee see no benefit in penalising drivers/teams for using engine valves that are well within accepted margins for mass-produced components and would be acceptable in BriSCA F2. No immediate amendment will be made to rule “Engines/10” but the rule will be updated after discussion at the next AGM. In the meantime, scrutineers will use their discretion when checking valves.

The result of the NMSC National Championship 2009 remains as declared on the night:
1st. #66 Bob Griffin, 2nd. #1 Jack Aldridge, 3rd. #313 Karl Emmett.

Sheffield - 26th July from 1.30.pm Putting Fun back into Stock Car Racing!
On Sunday 26th July at OWLERTON STADIUM Startrax have resurrected what originated as the Fan Club Derby, a major feature of the 60' and 70's where cars were dressed up by the fan clubs as `carnival floats’ for a Parade Lap.
Whilst many of the fan clubs have gone, we are aiming to restore the `fun’ and `community’ spirit where all the family, kids and race teams can get involved !
NATIONAL MINISTOX - HERITAGE CARS & BriSCA F1 share the bill programme and drivers/teams/families from ALL three formulae are invited to join the fun!
There are prizes for Best and most imaginative creation of each race class and overall 1st,2nd,3rd We really urge you to get involved in join in the fun whatever race formula you compete in - get friends, family involved - kids supporting the drivers in fancy dress and they can come on track as part of the parade.
There are no rules on the amount of creativity - simply dress the car up - adopt a theme, come in fancy dress or be really inspirational like some of the teams of the past where cars were turned into Stagecoaches, Traction Actions and Viking Ships by using `Blue Peter’ fun cardboard creations!
IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED IF YOU BOOK IN with perhaps a write up forwarded for the programme as to those involved and the theme - the more the merrier to have a great family day out!

The operators of the transponder system at Kings Lynn commented that as last night’s meeting went on, the problem increased of transponder signals not being picked up by the loop. This was put down to the build up of shale around the transponders on the cars.

No doubt all of the ministox left KL heavier than when they started with shale stuck everywhere! To ensure your transponder registers.all of the time and avoid problems with your results, please clean off any build up of shale around the transponder prior to each race.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM BUXTON RACEWAY

We have learnt from Derbyshire County Council that work to replace a cattle grid between the Leek Road (A53) and the track, which should have been completed by Friday 6th March, is not on schedule and will NOT be completed in time for our practice day on 7th March and meeting on 8th March.

We are suggesting that all traffic approaches the track from the A515, Buxton to Ashbourne Road, using the B5053 to Longnor, and turning right towards Dalehead/Axe Edge.

Having said that, the gate to the side of the cattle grid is presently open but can really only accept cars, or tow vehicles with “small trailers”.

It is going to be busy with a 12 noon start and we would respectfully ask drivers/spectators to arrive early.

14/1/09

The Chairman of BriSCA F1 (on behalf of all BriSCA F1 Permanent Promoters) has raised concerns regarding rumours circulating about the reasons for no NMSC fixtures at Coventry in 2009.

To avoid any misunderstanding of the reasons for Coventry not running NMSC meetings in 2009, and to prevent any accusations of secrecy/misrepresentation, the text of Jeremy Heaver’s original email is copied below:

 Date: Wednesday, 17 December, 2008, 9:31 AM

The 2009 fixtures I had planned to undertake at Coventry are for the time being cancelled pending the outcome of this latest incident.

I have had numerous conversations about the intimidation and violence both on and off the track concerning members of NMSC during the 2008 season some of which were with the individuals concerned and had hoped the threat of the new disciplinary system along with the threat of losing fixtures at Coventry would have been enough. Sadly that has not been the case and it appears to be starting a new round. As a business we can no longer afford to have this type of driver/team/parent taking part at Coventry as the possibilities of violence or bullying spill over into the public domain it does have a negative commercial effect which is why I was so pleased when the committee finally created some independence in the disciplinary system which was also being abused by way of intimidation.

It is very sad that I have had to take this step as the many innocent within NMSC will lose the opportunity to race at Coventry however I can no longer see a way of tolerating such behaviour some of which has come from members of the committee. I support the NMSC and want to see it develop as it does create future champions within Brisca F1 but at the moment I would rather pass until the NMSC sorts out its internal difficulties by creating a fair and equal system which deals with these problems rather than sweeping them under the carpet.

You are welcome to call me to discuss my decision and hopefully persuade me that you have a plan for taking the club forward in a way that ensures you will get dates for the 2010 season.

Kind Regards
Jeremy Heaver
